Definition:

Automatic grading is a quiz evaluation process in which the system instantly scores user responses using predefined correct answers and scoring rules, without manual checking by a creator or administrator. In LearnCove, it applies to objective question types—such as Multiple Choice, Matching, Matrix, and Missing Words—and ensures consistent, unbiased scoring. Integrated with Advanced Settings, it allows configuration of points, award methods (“All or nothing” or “Percentage of correct”), and explanations, making it ideal for large groups or situations where immediate grades are required.

Preparation:

Before using Automatic grading for a quiz:

  • Enable "By activities" and "Automatic grading" in School settings.

  • Enable Automatic grading in the Topic tab for the course.

  • Create a Quiz activity and add at least one question.

Steps to enable Automatic grading for a quiz:

  1. Open the activity on the "General" tab

  2. Scroll to "Specifications" block.

  3. Turn on toggle for the "Automatic grading" option.

Result:

When a user completes the quiz, the system will automatically calculate and assign their grade-without any action from a creator or administrator—based on whether their answers are correct.
