Definition: Points Award

The Points Award setting (general category) in LearnCove defines how the total points assigned to a question are distributed based on a user’s answer accuracy (distinguishing feature).

It offers two scoring modes:

  • All or Nothing → The user receives the full number of points only if the entire answer is correct. Any incorrect or missing part results in zero points.

    • Suitable for single-choice or questions requiring complete precision.

  • Percentage of Correct → The user earns a proportional score based on the number of correct parts selected.

    • Ideal for multiple-response, matching, or matrix questions where partial understanding should be recognized.

This setting enables creators to choose between strict evaluation and flexible scoring depending on the learning objective.

Preparation:

Before configuring Points Award, ensure that:

  • A question has already been created.

  • The question is open in edit mode.

  • The Question Text and at least one Answer option are defined.

How to: Configure Points Award

  1. Expand the "Advanced settings".

  2. Select the option that the creator prefers for the question. (The "All or nothing" is selected by default for the question)

  3. Save the changes via the "Save" button.

Result: What Happens Next

  • If All or Nothing is selected:

    • The user must answer the entire question correctly to earn full points.

    • Any incorrect or incomplete response results in zero points.

    • This mode supports strict evaluation and is best for questions requiring complete accuracy.

  • If Percentage of Correct is selected:

    • The user receives partial credit based on the proportion of correct responses.

    • Example: If a question has 4 correct answers and the user selects only 1, they receive 25% of the total points.

    • This mode supports flexible evaluation, rewarding partial understanding.
