Definition: Points

Points are a customizable scoring feature (general category) in LearnCove that allow creators to define the value of each question within an assessment (distinguishing feature). Creators can assign a value from 0 to 150 points per question, making it possible to weight questions based on difficulty, importance, or instructional goals.

The feature includes two scoring modes:

  • All or Nothing → Full points are awarded only if the response is 100% correct.

  • Percentage of Correct → Partial credit is given based on the proportion of correct responses.

Creators can also set 0 points for ungraded practice or feedback-only questions.

This system enhances grading precision, outcome-based evaluation, and fairness in assessment design.

Preparation: Before You Begin

Before assigning points to a question, ensure that:

  • A question has already been created.

  • The question is open in edit mode.

  • The Question Text and at least one Answer option are already defined.

How to: Assign Points to a Question

  1. Step 1: Expand the "Advanced settings".

  2. Step 2: Set the number of points for each question from 0 to 150 points

  3. Step 3: Save the changes via the "Save" button.

Result: What Happens Next

Once saved:

  • The selected question will display its assigned point value (0–150), reflecting its weight in the overall grade.

  • The scoring will be applied according to the chosen mode:

    • All or Nothing → Full credit only if completely correct.

    • Percentage of Correct → Partial credit for partially correct responses.

  • Any updates made in Advanced Settings (including scoring) are saved automatically and applied to the quiz.

This ensures that each question is aligned with learning objectives while maintaining a fair and transparent scoring system.
