Definition: Checkbox Item

A Checkbox item is a multiple-selection question type (general category) in LearnCove that allows users to select one or more correct answers from a list of options (distinguishing feature). Unlike Radio Buttons, which permit only one choice, Checkbox items provide flexibility when several responses may be valid.

This item type is ideal for:

  • Task-based scenarios (e.g., identifying all necessary steps in a process)

  • Procedural knowledge checks (where multiple actions may apply)

  • Behavioral or situational assessments

Advanced settings include:

  • Custom instructions before the question

  • Up to three introductory files (e.g., images, videos, or documents)

  • Explanations for answers

Preparation: Before You Begin

Before creating a Checkbox item, ensure that:

  • A Checklist Activity has already been created.

  • The creator has access to the Question tab within the activity.

How to: Create a Checkbox Item

  1. Navigate to the Question tab and click the Add button.

  2. From the list of available item types, select Checkbox.

  3. Enter your content into the Question Text field. (This field is required.)

  4. Fill the answer option in the Answers section, in needed add the additional option using "Add more" button. (there can be up to 10 options)

  5. Click "Save" to finish creating the question.

Result:

Once saved:

  • The Checkbox item is added to the Checklist activity.

  • Users will see the question with checkboxes and may select several answers from the Answers block.

  • Their selections will be recorded as part of their progress and results.

This format is well-suited for scenarios where multiple correct answers are possible, ensuring a more comprehensive assessment of learner understanding.
