Definition:

A Text Answer item is an open-ended question type (general category) that allows employees to provide detailed, written responses (distinguishing feature). This item supports reflection, personalized feedback, or elaboration on a topic beyond multiple-choice or checklist-style responses.

When creating a Text Answer item, the creator can use the Preview panel on the right-hand side to see a real-time view of how the question will appear to learners.

Preparation: Before You Begin

Before adding a Text Answer item, ensure that:

  • A Checklist Activity has already been created.

  • Creator has access to the Question tab within the Checklist.

  • Any supporting materials (e.g., an image to accompany the question) are ready to upload.

How to: Create a Text Answer Item

  1. Step 1: Navigate to the Question tab and click the Add button.

  2. Step 2: From the list of available item types, select Text Answer.

  3. Step 3: Enter your content into the Question Text field. (This field is required.)

  4. Step 4 (Optional): Upload an image to the Image section. (Only one image can be added.)

  5. Step 5: Click "Save" to finish creating the question.

Result:

Once saved:

  • The Text Answer item will appear in the Checklist activity.

  • Learners will be able to type and submit written responses directly within the activity.

  • The Preview ensures the question displays as intended before publishing.

This setup provides flexibility for collecting detailed, personalized input from users.
