Definition: Question Instructions

A Question Instruction is a short guiding text (general category) in LearnCove that appears before a quiz question (distinguishing feature). Its purpose is to help users understand how to approach the question by clarifying:

  • What to focus on

  • How to select an answer

  • What criteria to use when responding

Adding instructions reduces confusion, sets clear expectations, and improves the accuracy of learner responses.

Preparation:

Before adding instructions to a question, ensure that:

  • A question has been created or is ready to be edited.

  • The creator has access to the Advanced Settings of the question.

How to: Add Instructions to a Question

  1. Select a question or create a new one. (If you have already created a question, open the ‘edit’ mode of the question)

  2. Expand the “Advanced setting” block.

  3. Enter the instruction text that appears on a separate page before the question.

  4. Save the changes via "Save" button.

Result:

Once saved:

  • The instruction text is displayed in the Advanced Settings block for reference.

  • Users will see the instruction as a standalone page before the question.

  • This ensures users clearly understand the task before responding.

This feature enhances clarity, consistency, and learner confidence in answering quiz questions.
