Definition:

A Matching Question is a quiz activity type that enables users to pair related items from two lists using either “Matching Text” or “Matching Pictures” options. Commonly used for linking terms to definitions or questions to answers, this format tests the ability to recognize relationships between concepts. Users match each item in the first column with the correct option from the second column. It is especially effective for assessing knowledge of classifications, sequences, or processes, and can be added during the quiz creation process by selecting the Matching Question type.

Preparation:

  • Create a Quiz activity.

  • The creator should open the "Question" tab inside the quiz.

How to create a question:

  1. Click on the “Add” button in the creation section.

  2. Choose the “Matching Question” type from the proposed types of questions.

  3. Type the question inside the “Question text” area. (Matching text is selected by default).

  4. Fill in the concept question in the “Left match” field.

  5. Fill in the explanation opposite in the “Right match” field.

  6. Fill in the following fields that will be needed to answer the questions.

  7. Click on the “Save” button to save the created “Matching question” type.

Result:

The “Matching Question” type is successfully created within the Quiz activity. During the creation process, the Preview section displays the current state of the question, allowing creators to review and adjust the content. Corresponding items in the left and right columns are visually connected using the same color, making it easier to verify correct pairings.
